Motor Vehicle Accidents In Texas

On the way to a vacation, one usually does not expect or anticipate being involved in a deadly motor vehicle accident.  This was the unfortunate reality for fifty-two passengers on a charter bus that crashed and rolled over on North U.S. 83 while headed to Kickapoo Casino for a fun and carefree weekend away.  The catastrophic accident in South Texas involved over forty injuries and eight deaths.  Seven individuals were found dead on the scene and others were left in critical condition after windows were shattered before the passengers’ eyes.  Many individuals were wedged inside unable to escape or propelled through the windows.  The ages of the victims involved in the incident spanned from fifty-two to eighty-one and several were employees of an Elementary School District.  The highway was closed due to the fatal destruction.

Another group in Texas headed for a holiday, this time, a religious retreat scheduled in Missouri.  However, no one could foresee that their bus would fall from a bridge on the way to their destination—seventeen deaths resulted.  Similarly, and again in Texas, a bus carrying prison inmates and guards hit a guardrail which sent the entire vehicle over the highway edge. The bus, together with the passengers inside, plunged twenty feet downwards until it collided with a moving freight train.  Devastation ensued.

Tragedy can strike at any age to you or the people you love and at the most inopportune times.  Aside from the loss of life, serious injuries result from these accidents leaving victims with large hospitalization costs and the need for future treatment.  Often times, as in the South Texas disaster, the cause of the accident is unclear, the driver is unavailable for statements due to death or perilous condition, and no other vehicles are involved.  Victims in dire need of medical care can be left to contemplate how to pay for the treatment necessary if they are unaware of their legal rights.  An attorney can determine whether you have any legal recourse against the driver or his or her employer, the manufacturer of the vehicle, or another culpable party for the personal injuries you sustained.
